WHAT IS INVISIBLE FILLING?
In the past, dentists used different substances to fill cavities such as amalgam (metal), silver and even gold. Nowadays, most dentists use composite resin fillings or invisible fillings because of their natural tooth color and lack of discolouration that the conventional amalgam fillings can cause. Invisible fillings are both cosmetically pleasing and durable and the most popular, safe choice for treating tooth decay. Invisible fillings are devised to seal cavities and decrease the risk of further infection without affecting the aesthetics of the smile. As you can already presume from the name, one of the advantages of invisible filling is that they are impossible to recognize when you smile.
MATERIALS USED AND THE PLACING OF INVISIBLE FILLING
Invisible fillings consist of a tooth-coloured glass and plastic mixture that matches the natural colors and texture of the already existing tooth. Along with correcting decay, dentists install invisible fillings for cosmetic improvements such as reshaping teeth or changing the colour of teeth to coordinate surrounding teeth. The procedure for placing an invisible filling is comparatively easy and it is usually performed in a single dental visit. After preparing the concerned tooth by eliminating decay, the dentist begins to place the invisible material in layers. The dentist hardens each layer with a specialized light, and after completing the process, the dentist shapes the invisible material to fit the tooth and look and feel natural. Polishing the invisible filling limits staining and improves its durability.
