FASCIAL INFECTIONS

Infections of potential spaces that are present as communicating spaces between teeth and adjacent structures are termed as fascial infections.
Causes of fascial infections:
Tooth infections
Gum infections
Infections from salivary glands
Communication between any of these structures and spaces present around leads to infections.
Symptoms of fascial infections:
Swelling
Pain
Inability to eat
Inability to open mouth
Swelling around the structures involved e.g. eye,cheeks,neck around ear.
May be life threatening if it involves spaces around the neck.
Treatment:
Immediate treatment is required with cover of analgesics(pain relieving medicine) and antibiotics.
