What is Endodontic?

Endodontic is the treatment of the diseased or infected dental pulp. It is the soft inner tissue of a tooth. The word “endodontic” comes from the Greek “endo”, meaning inside and “odont” meaning tooth. Many teeth can be especially difficult to diagnose and treat.

Endodontic are specialists in saving teeth, committed to helping you maintaining teeth through endodontic therapy procedures involving the pulp , your natural smile and  continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.

What happens during endodontic treatment?

A local anesthetic will be given.  A sheet of latex called rubber dam (we have got non-latex ones too) will be placed around the tooth to isolate it, keeping it clean during treatment and protecting your airway.  The treatment consists of three or four basic steps. Treatment depends on the degree of infection/inflammation and the degree of difficulty.

During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth.

How does endodontic treatment save the tooth?

If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.

What is Conservative Dentistry?
